10 Outrageous Movie Plots That Actually Happened

3. Weekend At Bernie's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCTgcZ6ImsQ Weekend at Bernie's is a hilarious but thoroughly implausible film about two friends who try to convince everyone that their boss isn't dead by lugging his corpse around with them wherever they go. Though it's silly and totally played for laughs, it becomes more sinister when transposed onto a real life setting, as happened in 2008 when two men dressed their dead friend up, put him in a wheelchair, and paraded him around pretending he was still alive in order that they could cash his social security stipend. However, the ruse didn't last for long, as onlookers noticed that the man's corpse had already begun to suffer early stage rigor mortis, while the pair attested that they were just trying to stop a friend from being evicted, despite knowing full well he was dead. Incredibly, the two men were found not guilty on charges of larceny and improper burial because medical officials could not substantiate for sure when the man had died.
