10 Outrageous Movie Plots That Actually Happened

2. Sweeney Todd

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_hgrfZVlJA The musical Sweeney Todd, most famously adapted by Tim Burton in 2007, is about a murderous barber who teams up with a sadistic baker; he kills people, and she then bakes them into pies that the townsfolk unwittingly eat. It's an intentionally silly premise that nevertheless actually happened (to an extent) in real life; Italian Leonarda Cianciulli spent the majority of 1939 and 1940 killing three women, dismembering their corpses, and turning them into tea-cakes that she fed to not just random punters, but her own friends and family! It's worth mentioning that Cianciulli didn't put human meat in the pies, but just the blood - though that's bad enough - and when finally caught, keenly noted how sweet the women tasted, as well as the devious means through which she evaded suspicion for so long. She would convince each woman to move away and write postcards explaining such to their families, such that when they became tasty treats, nobody was any the wiser.
