10 Outstanding Musical Performances From Regular Actors

7. John C. Reilly - Chicago

url-2 Before Reilly found his way into the Will Ferrell comedy crew, he had a distinct persona from his appearances in Paul Thomas Anderson films and other critically acclaimed dramas. He embodied the sad sack of a man that fitted perfectly with the character of Amos Hart in €œChicago€. His big number €œMr. Cellophane€ is infused with so much sadness and self loathing that it is hard not to feel heartbroken for the guy. Rob Marshall€™s combination of the fantasy of the stage and reality of the world fit perfectly with this song. Reilly puts on the makeup of a sad clown and singing to a room filled with no one. He also plays the perfect foil to the charismatic, over the top performance of Richard Gere. He looks like the average Joe who is not distinguishable from any other person and that is the charm Reilly brings to the role.
