10 Overused Filming Locations You Never Noticed In Your Favorite Movies And TV Shows
1. Hatfield House, Hertfordshire
Hatfield House is a gorgeous country house in Hertfordshire, England. Built in the early 1600s, the palatial estate is a prime example of the prodigy house. With sky-high ceilings, elaborate glass windows, and dark ornate flourishes throughout the home, Hatfield House just exudes wealth—obscene wealth. You can just picture the potential inhabitants of the home.
Either a) It’s the home of a reclusive, old rich dude with sinister intentions, b) a sullen, lonely, and misunderstood teenager, who has a better relationship with the help than he is with his parents, because wealth=child abandonment, or c) Royalty.
Why is it so glaringly obvious? Because, like a typecast actor, Hatfield House has played those roles over and over again. It was home to chocolate-loving and child-killing Willy Wonka in the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate reboot, Batman’s Bruce Wayne continued to live in the massive manor after his parents were gunned down in the ally, and it also served as the cinematic home to Queen Anne in The Favorite.
Of course there are outliers. Hatfield House has made more than 35 appearances on screen, including dystopian political thriller film V for Vendetta, gothic supernatural horror Sleepy Hollow, American comedy Get Him To The Greek, and dozens more.
