10 Painfully Bad One-Liners In Otherwise Great Movies
1. "You Know What Happens To A Toad When It Gets Struck By Lightning?" - X-Men
This truly, awful line is most definitely the worst to grace this list. X-Men itself is a good film. It has all the elements you want in a superhero film - cool characters, good special-effects and a compelling plot - although that is without the complex undertones Marvel's MCU films revolutionised in the superhero genre.
Halle Berry's Storm delivers the criminal line stating, "You know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightening? The same this that happens to everything else." It's SO bad. The greatest mystery is how this line ended up in the final-cut of the film. Surely at some point a writer, script supervisor, director or actor should've raised the red flag.
Berry does the best she can but there really is no way to make this line sound good. The dramatic pause post-question perhaps even makes it worse. It prepares you for a snarky takedown line only to receive this cringy line.
If we can take away one thing from this line, it's that at least we all now know what happens to a toad that gets struck by lightening.
