5. Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth
For some devotees of the series, Hellraiser ended with Hellbound: Hellraiser II. That was the last film of the series made in Britain (it's commonly forgotten that Hellraiser started life in the UK), and the last one that really stayed true to the dark, intimate vision of Clive Barker's original.
Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth was the first entry in the series produced by US stable Dimension Films, and it shows. Gone are the dingy, claustrophobic corridors of old houses and hospitals; in their place we have the sprawling metropolis of New York (although it's fairly obvious that it wasn't actually shot there, the production having been based in Carolina).
Most notably, the bulk of the action takes place in The Boiler Room, a nightclub run by the entertainingly over-the-top JP Monroe (Kevin Bernhardt), a wealthy hedonist with a taste for Gothic excess.
Here, the affluent clientele rock out to heavy metal, schmooze at the bar with indubitably overpriced drinks - and, soon enough, get slaughtered en masse when Doug Bradley's Pinhead emerges at his most gleefully sadistic, and quite literally unleashes hell on the lot of them.
