10 Party Animal Horror Movies
4. Halloween II
There's a lot that can be said against Rob Zombie's Halloween movies. And I do mean a lot. They're sloppily written, filled with utterly loathsome characters, and their mean-spirited emphasis on suffering and torment is not in-keeping with the tone of John Carpenter's timeless 1978 original.
That having been said, there's one thing you can always count on from a Rob Zombie movie, and that's for it to have Rob Zombie written all over it. Opinions may vary on his credentials as a filmmaker, but few would dispute the man knows how to rock - and this does come across in his movies.
Halloween II arguably does this better than any of them. This time around, Scout Taylor-Compton's Laurie Strode isn't babysitting on 'the night he came home' - she's out with her buddies dressed up as characters from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, attending a raucous gig by psychobilly band Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.
It's easily the most effective sequence in the otherwise deeply flawed movie, as it beautifully evokes the feel of a real live show. And there's a good reason for that; it basically was done for real, the actors casually inserted into an audience of genuine fans of the band, and the whole spectacle shot fly-on-the-wall style.
And what a spectacle it is, with all the catchy tunes, outlandish costumes and burlesque dancers up on stage.
