10 People Brave Enough To Accept Their Razzie Awards
3. J. David Shapiro - Worst Screenplay (2001) And Worst Picture Of The Decade (2011) For Battlefield Earth
If Showgirls and The Postman fully deserved their Razzie awards, then Battlefield Earth took bad movies to the next level - and the board of the Golden Raspberry Awards certainly knew it. Not only did it 'win' the Worst Picture award upon its release, but the Razzies created a special category for Battlefield Earth in 2011 - Worst Movie of the Decade. It's hard to argue with the decision - rarely has such a terribly conceived and executed film made it onto our cinema screens. It would be nice to say that writer David J. Shapiro has written other great material since to redeem himself, but sadly this isn't the case - aside from Battlefield Earth his only other notable writing credit is for Robin Hood: Men In Tights. At least his acceptance speech is far more entertaining than his movies, and audiences have been spared seeing any more of L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology manuals being translated to the screen since then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKlEE18R5d8
