10 Performances In Film Biopics That Got It Horribly Wrong

8. Meg Ryan As Jackie Kallen - Against The Ropes

Meg Ryan was, and remains one of America's most beloved and celebrated actresses, despite a career stall following a misjudged turn in 2003's In The Cut - a relentlessly dark film that many fans and critics argued tarnished her image as America's sweetheart.

Recognized during her hey-day as Queen of the romantic comedy, Ryan is still universally adored for her roles in iconic installments in the vein of When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail, with many critics lauding her as one of the finest performers never to receive an Academy Award nomination.

Regrettably, this only makes her appearance in 2004's Against The Ropes, a dramatized account of the life of razor sharp female boxing promoter Jackie Kallen, even more inexplicable. In a film audibly groaning with played out genre tropes and lazy writing, Ryan is simply woeful from start to finish. It's like watching a different actress wearing her face onscreen.

A cinematic take on such a seminal figure within the world of boxing should have been a sure-fire blockbuster smash, but the sheer indifference leaves audiences internally pleading to be knocked unconscious long before the end credits roll.
