Kristen Stewart's stunning turn as Diana Spencer in 2021's Spencer was universally lauded, with the 33 year old actress receiving an Academy Award nomination for one of the year's finest dramatic bows with her magnetic depiction of the People's Princess.

This likely only compounded the levels of frustration Naomi Watts must have felt following the disaster that was 2013's Diana. There's simply not a good thing to say about Oliver Herschbiegel's picture. The innately talented Watts does her best to save this disaster but this is a TV-style movie nightmare come to life.

In a misjudged decision, the film shows very little sensitivity to Diana's tragic legacy, painting her final years as an endlessly hideous soap opera. An international icon beloved by millions, Diana should not have been a difficult character to get behind in the slightest, but despite her best efforts, Watts produces a miserable attempt.
