10 Planned Comic Book Movie Sequels (And What Happened)

The Planned Sequel

Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man series could have been alright if only we didn’t have such amazing movies as Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming to compare it to. And also if they hadn’t made The Lizard look like scaley Voldemort. Andrew Garfield wasn’t a bad Spider-Man, either... he was just outdone by Tom Holland in every way.

The Sinister Six were a group of Spidey’s greatest villains, often lead by Doc Ock, but in this pitch for an Amazing Spider-Man spin-off it was going to be a revived Norman Osborn bossing The Gentleman and The Vulture around to try and finally defeat Spider-Man.

No names were attached, except for the obvious Chris Cooper as Osborn and Andrew Garfield as the webslinger himself. But this really shows that Sony didn’t know what they were doing with the franchise - between this and Amazing 3’s plans to make Peter into a “mad scientist” who “brings Gwen Stacy back from the dead”? Yikes. Thank goodness Kevin Feige stepped in.

What Happened?

Both Sinister Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 had the go-ahead until Disney made a deal for Spider-Man in the MCU, and so both Amazing 3 and Sinister Six were cancelled.

Instead, the character would be collaborated on by top producers from Disney and Sony, and we now have the best iteration of Spider-Man yet with Civil War, Homecoming and Infinity War fleshing him and his world out more than Sony alone ever did.

Ben Trangmar hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
