5. Slow West

Michael Fassbender's work schedule is incredibly hectic these days - he has half a dozen movies coming out in the next two years, including more X-Men and Prometheus sequels, Macbeth and a Steve Jobs biopic. Before those big hitters wing their way into theatres, the lower key Western Slow West is coming out this month. Fassbender stars alongside Kodi Smitt-McPhee and the excellent Ben Mendelsohn as travellers crossing the American frontier in the 19th century, each with their own particular story to tell and pasts to hide. Early reviews suggest a film in a similar mould to Jim Jarmusch's underrated Dead Man - a postmodern affair with surreal shifts in tone, an emphasis on the mythical aspects of Western lore, and coincidentally one of Johnny Depp's best performances - which can only be a good thing.
