10 Potentially Awesome Movies Ruined By The PG-13 Curse

9. Live Free Or Die Hard

If there's one thing the Die Hard movies used to deliver it was plenty of bang for your buck and lots of profanity thrown in for good measure. While the first remains the best - as is often the case - and the second and third suffered from a law of diminishing returns, they nevertheless tried to stick to the spirit of the original, delivering entertainment for a mature audience. The same can't really be said for Live Free Or Die Hard, the fourth installment of the series which saw the previous R rating reduced to PG-13 so that the studios could sell more tickets. Director Len Wiseman wasn't even aware of the ratings change until well into production, while Bruce Willis was vocal in his disappointment, stating, "I really wanted this one to live up to the promise of the first one, which I always thought was the only really good one. That's a studio decision that is becoming more and more common, because they€™re trying to reach a broader audience. It seems almost a courageous move to give a picture an R rating these days." When the hero can't even use his famous catchphrase for fear of falling foul of the censors, you know something's amiss. Still, they might have returned to the R rating for A Good Day to Die Hard but this didn't stop it from being a truly atrocious movie - regardless of the rating, a terrible script equals a terrible film.
