10 Predictable Horror Movie Twists Everyone Saw Coming

6. Child's Play - It's The Doll

1408 John Cusack
New Line Cinema

Plot: After a young boy, Andy (Alex Vincent) gets a doll for his birthday, mysterious murders start happening around him.

Child's Play is a good slasher film featuring one of the greatest horror villains of all time - Chucky the killer doll (Brad Dourif) - but a very distracting thing is that it insists on a pointless twist.

At first, the film creates ambiguity over whether the film's murders are being committed by the doll or Andy... but it's obviously the doll. Like, come on.

The marketing pointed in that direction and the opening scene clearly set this up, so why have it as a twist at all? Yes, the moment when Chucky suddenly comes to life on-screen for the first time is a good moment but there was no need to set it up as a twist.

Still, Child's Play is a successful film despite this glaring error and some of its sequels are very worthwhile too, so this twist doesn't hurt the film too much.
