10 Predictable Horror Movie Twists Everyone Saw Coming
7. Antebellum - It's The Present Day
Plot: A modern-day African-American author becomes trapped in the past as a slave.
Antebellum was an incredibly disappointing horror film that looked and sounded really interesting, but was instead a hollow, gratuitously violent and utterly miserable affair that also completely bungles the big twist.
Before going into the film, viewers will have all sorts of theories about the answer to the film's mystery (how has Veronica ended up in the past?), but the film more or less gives it away long before the end.
It starts with Veronica (Janelle Monae) in the plantation as a slave, then it cuts to her in the modern day. This part of the film ends with Veronica being kidnapped and knocked out, making it all too clear that she's been taken off somewhere, and when the place she was in is eventually revealed as a modern-day re-enactment of the Civil War time period, it's not surprising at all.
Had the film dispensed with the scene of Veronica being kidnapped it would've been a less predictable film, so this was a frustratingly easy plot twist to fix.
Sorting out this twist wouldn't have single-handedly saved the film, as its screenplay needed a lot of work, but it would've at least madefor a more interesting viewing.
