10 Predictions About The Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe

7. The Movies Will Be Overstuffed

Like the Marvel films of today, the original Universal Monsters universe had nods and references to events in previous Monsters movies for the sake of continuity. They even had a teaser of sorts for Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man with the Invisible Man making an appearance at the end of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. However, the shared movie universes of today take nods to inter-movie continuity far more seriously. As people who followed Marvel€™s first phase know, some critics complained that the nods to the larger Marvel universe felt shoehorned in, making movies like Iron Man 2 feel disjointed and overstuffed. After Dracula Untold wrapped up its production, Universal conducted reshoots, adding material that would tie Dracula Untold to the larger Monsters universe. Dracula Untold€™s producer, Alissa Phillips, also expressed her hopes that Luke Evans€™ character would make a cameo in the upcoming Mummy reboot. It€™s safe to bet that before the Monsters unite in a big crossover feature, their standalone movies will feel a tad overstuffed. Runtimes will inevitably feature scenes that build and expand the larger Monsters' storyline. Marvel€™s success proves that this is a necessary evil for the greater good of a shared cinematic universe.
