10 Predictions About The Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe

6. The Mythology Will Be Convoluted

The original Monsters movies had a loose continuity connecting their stories. Now that the Internet and home entertainment systems allow avid fans to pore over the minutia of a cinematic universe€™s internal logic so they can point out any inconsistencies on online forums and pop culture websites, Universal will have to up its game. The origin stories of Dracula, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and Frankenstein, not to mention the Creature from the Black Lagoon or the Invisible Man, are all vastly different; the Monsters€™ origin tales run the gamut from a Romanian Count that makes a pact with the Devil to a chemist who unlocks the key to making himself invisible. It will be a challenge for Universal to keep its mythology logically consistent when mixing magic with science fiction. That€™s not even considering the different cultures, continents, and historical periods the Monsters hail from. Marvel handled this conundrum by grounding its magical characters, like Thor and Loki, in the realm of science fiction. Universal won€™t have this option because Dracula is inseparable from the supernatural. It seems almost inevitable that the Monsters universe€™s mythology will end up being so convoluted fans will need a roadmap to sort it out.
