5. The Monsters Will Team-Up To Battle A Common Foe
It seems that Dracula Untold is working to turn the undead lord of vampires into a sympathetic action hero. Roberto Orci has also hinted that his Mummy reboot will cast a heroic light on the titular character. Based on what we know about the series so far, the new Universal Monsters will be more akin to superheroes than horror villains. This is a savvy approach on Universals part considering that Marvels superhero team-up Avengers Assemble proved superheroes working together can create box office magic. However, the team-up won't work if there's no one for our heroes to gang up on. In the original Monsters crossover features, the Wolf Man usually tried to stop the nefarious plans of Dracula. Given that Dracula is being recast as a hero, Universal will need to come up with a different take. The Marvel universe has its Thanos. DC has its Lex Luthor. Universal will most likely follow suit, introducing a villainous character that can only be defeated through the combined efforts of the Monsters. Who is the most likely candidate for big baddie given Universal's slate of supernatural heroes? Were guessing the Devil (the most obvious choice), but hopefully Universal will be more creative than that.
