10 Problems Terminator Genisys Sequel Must Address

7. ... And The Cheesy Jokes

When it comes to including moments of levity in Terminator Genisys, the most obvious point of reference is Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Cameron's 1984 original lacked any real attempts at humour, but his sequel occasionally lightened the mood in keeping with its broader blockbuster appeal.

Terminator Genisys does have the occasional moments which will raise a smile - if not outright belly laughs - but the problem lies in the very repetitious nature of these moments. Two running gags are used repeatedly throughout the film - the Guardian's attempts to smile and his declaration that he "old, not obsolete" - to the point that it becomes clear that the writers clearly couldn't think of anything else funny to include.

A sequel would do well to bring on board a wittier writer more capable of crafting humorous moments; or better still, cut back on the jokes and take the franchise back towards the hard boiled intensity of the first instalment.
