10 Questions A Sony Spider-Verse Must Answer
5. Will Anyone Be Stuck In An Alternate Universe?
It's not too risky to assume that some events will occur which opens these worlds up to cross-contamination. If that's the case, then there logically must be a way to "close" these universes again once the threat is eliminated.
Whenever the first Spider-Verse saga concludes, will everyone make it back to their own universe safe and sound?
For the Spider-Verse to successfully work in cinema, Sony must introduce stakes and consequences that will irrevocably alter the future of all universes. A single apocalyptic event threatening the world or Morlun hunting Spider-Men across dimensions are solid ideas, but their conclusion shouldn't simply be a happy ending that moves on to the next saga.
The future of the MCU is so intriguing because the decisions made in Endgame will have a ripple effect and continue to negatively impact the forthcoming films. The Spider-Verse needs to take itself just as seriously.
A Ben Reilly could be stuck in Tobey Maguire's world and let him retire, just as easily as a Kingpin could take over Oscorp in Andrew Garfield's world and revive the Sinister Six project.
Sony needs to introduce the Spider-Verse with stakes and establish from the offset that there are major consequences to any inter-universe events.
