10 Questions From The Avengers: Age Of Ultron Trailer
5. Where Are The Supporting Characters?
Age of Ultron is going to be one hell of an epic film, and as such, a 2-minute trailer can't really do justice to the wealth of locales, set-pieces, and mostly importantly, characters that are going to be figuring in the plot. As such, the first trailer focused on setting the scene and letting fans know that The Avengers are back, as well as introducing some significant new players, in Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. However, there are numerous characters conspicuous by their absence in the trailer: Paul Bettany's Vision, War Machine, the villainous von Strucker, Erik Selvig, Maria Hill and Peggy Carter, and even Nick Fury is only visible in one shot. The Likely Answer: It makes total sense to keep most of these characters in the periphery since they're hardly a selling point for the film (Nick Fury aside), but given how important von Strucker will presumably be in the plot, it's pretty surprising there wasn't even a single shot of him following his appearance in the post-credits scene of Thor 2. Though future trailers will likely feature more of these characters (except perhaps Selvig and Carter), their lack of focus here likely reflects the fact that none of them are key players in the movie's events, and even von Strucker will quite clearly be taking a back seat to Ultron.
