It goes without saying that any actor playing The Grinch needs to be able to tap into their truly grouchy side, and that didn't seem to be much of a problem for Jim Carrey while shooting Ron Howard's How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Carrey had to spend up to eight-and-a-half hours per day in makeup to become the iconic Dr. Seuss character, a process so taxing on the actor that he kicked a hole in the side of his trailer on the first day of shooting and almost quit the movie.

Ultimately, a man who trained CIA operatives to endure torture was brought in to help Carrey cope with the makeup job, though that didn't stop Oscar-winning makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji more recently accusing Carrey of being "difficult" enough to work with that it sent him into therapy.

Tsuji claimed that Carrey became extremely frustrated by the length of the makeup process and the eye-irritating contact lenses he was required to wear, and would lash out at him.

Evidently Carrey wasn't really acting sinister and scary on the set of the movie - for the 92 days that he had the makeup applied, Carrey was seething with totally real contempt and misanthropy.
