10 (Realistic) Directors Who Should Direct A Star Wars Spin-Off Film
5. James Gunn
James Gunn made a big-budget comic book adaptation about a team of superheroes that involved a sociopathic raccoon and a talking tree voiced by Vin Diesel with the vocabulary of... well, a tree. When you stop to think about it and let it sink in, Gunn's services should be treated like gold dust and should the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy also be successful he will no doubt be considered Hollywood royalty. It would seem the man can do no wrong.
Unfortunately though in 2015 in one of his regular Twitter Q&A's he ruled himself out of directing a Star Wars film, but he did admit to loving the franchise.
Furthermore, in a more recent Facebook Q&A he revealed that he is undecided whether he would make the inevitable third Guardians of the Galaxy film and he mentioned that if he did leave the GotG series it wouldn't necessarily be so he could make a smaller film.
Could it be that since the first mentioned Twitter Q&A and having worked on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 he has caught the bug and realised that he feels most at home working on blockbuster movies?
Providing Star Lord and co.'s next adventure is a hit, Disney would be thrilled if Gunn opened up to the idea of trading galaxies for the Star Wars kind, but maybe Star Wars would be too restrictive for a filmmaker that consistently embraces irreverent humour and popular soundtracks. Still, if there's anything we do know for sure in the world of cinema, it is to never say never.
