10 Reasons Baby Driver Could Be The Surprise Movie Of The Summer
9. Edgar Wright’s Back!
From his early days of micro-budget feature A Fistful of Fingers and the now-iconic sitcom Spaced, Edgar Wright has always had a distinctive, cine-literate and energetic style. He then made his name with 2004’s Shaun of the Dead and its ‘Cornetto trilogy’ follow-ups Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, as well as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, his first brush with Hollywood.
And then came Ant-Man. Marvel and Wright fans alike were eager to see what the comic book-obsessed filmmaker would make of such a superhero property, which could have resulted in one of the most interesting films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that wasn’t to be – Wright departed the project over creative differences.
Because of this, it’s been a whole four years since a Wright film last hit cinemas. But there’s been no struggling with bigwigs this time – Baby Driver is entirely his own creation, scripted and directed, with complete creative control. It’s pure Edgar Wright, and he hasn’t let us down yet.
