10 Reasons Metallica's Through The Never Will Rip Your Face Off

8. Fuel and Cyanide On The Set-List

Flames Certain songs just elicit that instant 'go-CRAZY' response, and the vocal-led intro of Fuel is just that. Hetfield bellows the opening three lines "Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!", and as the band lock-step behind him, towering flames engulf your peripheral vision. It's one of many songs in the film that takes full advantage of having a thematic tie-in element, and with the 3D cameras sweeping in and out from in between the likes of Lars' ferocious playing, it creates a spectacle that's heavy metal incarnate. Then there's Cyanide. More of a Metallica fan box-tick than anything resembling a mainstream draw, Cyanide serves to remind anyone that the bands' newer output can easily hang with their vintage classics. As the titular green ooze consumes the screen-filled stage the band play upon, thunderous chords rumble away underneath, building to one of Kirk Hammett's most visceral solos he's lain down in the last 20 years. On-record it was an instant hit, live however it's another beast entirely, and with one section of the song featuring a split-second stop before Hammett jumps in with three rapid-fire full step bends just as an explosion of fire lets fly behind him, you'll still be searching for your jaw long after the credits have rolled.
