10 Reasons Shazam Needs To Be In Justice League 2
5. The League Might Need His Purity
Doctor Sivana, like others put to the test prior to Billy Batson, failed the test of purity that would have allowed him to receive the powers of Shazam. He instead chose the side of the Seven Sins, leading to his emergence as a villain. His hatred for Billy largely stems from his belief that Billy himself would not have passed this same test.
At the end of the film, Billy finally proves his worth. When faced with the ability to wield the Sins himself, he merely laughs it off as a bad joke. To skeptical viewers, this moment might not feel earned. After all, Billy initially uses his powers for little more than money and YouTube clicks. How can such a reckless youth possibly be as "pure of heart" as the test demands?
There's actually a pretty simple answer to that: Billy is fourteen years old. His earlier actions in the film were not a sign of an impure heart, but rather a kid simply being a kid while trying to figure out what to do with powers beyond his understanding. Purity alone is not a cure for ignorance. As soon as Billy begins to understand the nature of his power, he begins to wield it with nobler intent.
With the hypothetical Justice League sequel currently rumored to pit the League against either Darkseid or the Legion of Doom, this purity could prove useful. Both Darkseid and the Legion have at various times used mind control to aid their schemes. A hero as pure as Billy may be the only one immune to corruption. That won't keep his immaturity from occasionally blurring the line between right and wrong, but he'll at least be acting of his own volition.
