8. The DCCU Encourages Creativity (More-So Than The MCU)
At Marvel Studios, the ability to blend in is a necessity for creatives - they go for the TV approach, whereby each 'episode' is overseen by a creator, written (essentially) by committee and directed by someone who doesn't infringe too heavily on the house style. According to reports, things are done differently over at DC. Though things have reportedly been chaotic as DC/Warner Bros. have attempted to set up their own cinematic universe, insiders say the DCCU emphasises a "filmmaker-driven" approach. And interestingly, The Hollywood Reporter claims David Ayer has been given "broad creative control" on Suicide Squad. This is an exciting prospect not just because it suggests that Suicide Squad will be its own thing, separate of Zack Snyder's dour vision for Superman; it also means that David Ayer will have been given the freedom to allow his creativity to flourish. Unlike Marvel's Ant-Man, which saw Edgar Wright pushed off the project because he was too individual, DC is seemingly allowing its artists to get creative juices flowing and produce work in their own style.
