10 Reasons Why 2016's Blockbuster Season Sucked
1. The Movies Weren't Very Good
The biggest, most important and most obvious reason that the 2016 blockbuster season won't be remembered as one of the all-time great years for big-budget entertainment is also staggeringly simple; the vast majority of them weren't particularly good.
Last year gave us Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Furious 7, Inside Out, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, The Martian, The Revenant, Kingsman and Mad Max: Fury Road to name a few. In 2014, we had Guardians of the Galaxy, Days of Future Past, The Winter Soldier, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Lego Movie and Edge of Tomorrow. The class of 2016 simply doesn't compare.
Most people tend to agree that Captain America: Civil War, Zootopia, Finding Dory, Deadpool, The Jungle Book and Star Trek Beyond are among the year's best blockbusters while Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad and Jason Bourne have greatly divided opinion, with the majority of the rest ranging from mildly disappointing to flat-out terrible.
While this article may seem cynical and overly-critical, there's a reason. I'm not Marvel or DC, I don't give a sh*t what gender the Ghostbusters are, I have never watched an episode of Star Trek on television in my life and the appeal of World of Warcraft goes right over my head.
Like you, I'm just a die-hard cinema fan that spends a lot of money going to the movies and this year's blockbuster season has left me feeling more than a little robbed.
