7. Why Can't You Be More Like Tony?
Before Iron Man came out in 2008, it was pretty obvious that fans liked Batman; it wasn't because Iron Man was inferior, but moviegoers didn't have any movie to compare him to. Then Robert Downey Jr. came out of the blue and revitalized his career with an entertaining performance as the electrifying Tony Stark, a billionaire playboy, who decides to use his resources to fight crime as Iron Man. I've been watching Batman ever since I was a kid: Adam West, Michael Keaton, Kevin Conroy, Val Kilmer, even George Clooney, all the way up to Christian Bale, were heroes to me. I could relate to Batman's angst and loneliness, and the guilty conscience which fueled his crime fighting. Then I saw Iron Man and I wanted to be like Tony. People see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Christian Bale as Batman, and while both are great actors, you have to admit Iron Man is the kind of guy you want to have a drink with. Who knows how each actor would've played the other's role, but I have a feeling that RDJ would've added some charm to the cranky Bat. Even so, I don't believe RDJ would've had as much fun with Batman's character as he does playing Tony Stark. While the Avengers have to deal with Stark's quips and selfishness, it's much more manageable than handling Bruce's silence and anger issues. I'm willing to bet that if the JL had to trade one of their own for an Avenger, they'd trade Batman. But this isn't completely about contrasting personality types, there is some pragmatism involved, leading to our next point...

I'm a thinker/fantasizer who writes down his thoughts and fantasies hoping it makes sense to everyone else. Also I'm an aspiring screenwriter, but if I can work in film at all, I'd be happy. One day you may hear the name Ryan Kim and associate it with "Academy Award winning writer" or with "where's that guy with my coffee." If the latter comes true, please let it be Paul Thomas Anderson's coffee I'm getting.
