10 Reasons Why Dark Phoenix Is One Of The Greatest WORST Comic Book Movies Ever
8. ALL Of The Performances
A few notable instances aside (Sophie Turner at the very least is clearly trying very hard to give a good performance, and Michael Fassbender is certainly committing to... a choice) pretty much every actor here looks like they were rolled out of bed, carried onto their marker on-set, and spoon-fed their lines five seconds before the cameras rolled.
Judging from the behind-the-scenes stories that are now emerging, it truly looks as if no one involved with these films ever even particularly wanted to make this film and that they all just kind of got roped in through some misplaced sense of guilt and loyalty. And, surprise surprise, it's ridiculously obvious in the film itself! Who could have guessed?
Actors such as Jennifer Lawrence, Tye Sheridan, and Nicholas Hoult could pretty blatantly not care less about any of their lines or scenes. Even the ever-talented James McAvoy falls into this trap, with his Professor X feeling hysterically strained, to the point that his accent wavers constantly throughout the film.
As terrible as some of the other X-Men films have gotten, they at least always had likable performances and characters to fall back on. Dark Phoenix, on the other hand, does not.
