10 Reasons Why Dark Phoenix Is One Of The Greatest WORST Comic Book Movies Ever

3. The Literal Street Fight

There may be no more joy-inducing sequence in cinema this year than the coveted 'the X-Men have to try and cross the street' sequence in Dark Phoenix.

Up until this point in the film there hasn't really been an action sequence. Like, we had the space mission at the beginning and then we got Jean throwing a tantrum in a street but that's about it. So the question still loomed large: can Simon Kinberg even attempt to direct an action sequence? Because by this point in the film, it's ludicrously evident that he cannot direct anything else.

But here, we finally get our answer and it is glorious. Immediately following their meeting and Tye Sheridan dropping the most mayonnaise 'f*ck' ever delivered, the two teams go to cross the street to get to the building where Jean is. But none of them can.

There's suddenly a ton of cars on the street, backing it up, leading to some of the most poorly staged action you're likely to see in a theater this year. To compensate for this, Kinberg has Hans Zimmer crank the musical intensity up to 11, which in turn only makes it funnier how lackluster the actual action is.

To top it off, all of the characters seem to forget what they're actually trying to do. Magneto makes it to the building, only to then turn around and bring a subway train up from the ground with his powers (for no reason)? It's all hysterical.
