10 Reasons Why Legacy Characters Are The Future Of The MCU
7. Reboots Aren't A Guaranteed Success
You can place a sure bet on a reboot being rather far off in Kevin Feige's mind, as we only need to come to that point when the ongoing storylines of the MCU begin to buckle under the own weight, and new fans have to trundle through two or three dozen movies to understand what the heck is going on. Thankfully we're barely out of the first dozen, so it's easy to keep everything straight in audience's minds, story-wise. Feige's finger should be kept firmly off the button for a while at any rate, as reboots are rather hit-and-miss; one need only look at Sony's eventually-aborted attempt at rebooting Spider-Man. Both films under the 'Amazing' banner underperformed at the box office, so much so that the studio had to completely go back to the drawing board. A reboot should be an absolute last resort for Marvel, considering all the work they've put into their cinematic offerings. They wanted a shared universe, and part and parcel of that is ongoing continuity. When the time comes that movies in Phase Five or Six require editorial footnotes to follow ('Go back and check out Avengers: Age of Ultron, true believers!'), then Marvel has permission to reboot. But we're still a ways off from that.
