10 Reasons Why Skyfall Could Be One Of The Greatest Bond Films Ever Made

2. The Return of Q

Casino Royale may have been a reboot of the franchise, but it was still sad to see the absence of a Q figure. Up until his death in 1999, Desmond Llewellyn was an iconic aspect of the films, playing the quartermaster of the Q-Branch gadget lab. Appearing in 17 different Bond adventures, Q was often an integral figure in each entry he appeared in, providing James Bond with some of his most outlandish and life-saving gadgets. After introducing John Cleese as his bumbling replacement in The World Is Not Enough, it€™s hardly surprisingly that they scrapped the character - especially after we saw Bond mucking about in an invisible car in Die Another Day. Nonetheless, fans were still sad to see the character absent in both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall is set to rectify this by reinventing the character to fit into the darker world of Daniel Craig€™s Bond. Portrayed by Ben Whishaw, the new Q is significantly younger than any previous actors in the role and looks like a bit like your average IT boffin. Along with Q€™s more modest appearance, the gadgets themselves seem a bit more low-key with the trailer showing us the trademark Walther PPK being customised to Bond€™s palm print. While we€™re sure that we'll probably see some more outlandish gadgets in the film, don€™t expect to find this Q giving Bond an amphibious Crocodile disguise or a literal Ghetto Blaster.
