10 Reasons X-Men Should Never Join The MCU

6. The X-Men Universe Is Too Well Established...

With ten feature films and a television series under its belt, it's rather safe to say that Fox's X-Men franchise has not only laid a solid foundation, but also built upon it considerably. It's a series that has effectively become a cinematic universe in and of itself and we have spent so much time with certain characters and dedicated so much attention to specific plot lines and arcs that scraping that and starting all over again in the MCU is simply out of the question.

It's not like when Marvel finally got the go-ahead to use Spider-Man, as the character had only been in a trilogy and a duology, both of which were completely self-contained and acted independently of everything else. X-Men is something much, much bigger.

Had Marvel had managed to acquire the rights back in, say, 2009 following The Last Stand and X-Men Origins when the series appeared to be dead in the water, it would have been a very different story. However, since then, the franchise has been built back up significantly and even broadened its horizons with landmark films such as Days of Future Past, Deadpool, and Logan.

Marvel has a done a great job at giving credibility back to properties they were able to reacquire, but frankly, the X-Men franchise has reached a point where it no longer needs Marvel for that.
