10 Recent Horror Movie Endings Nobody Can Agree On
5. The Monkey
Between his latest movie The Monkey and last year's Longlegs, Osgood Perkins certainly has a penchant for delivering divisive endings.
For as fun as The Monkey is for its first hour-and-change, it struggles more when it comes to wrapping everything up in a satisfying manner.
For sure, there were a lot of people who were on Osgood's wavelength and relished the bonkers finale in which Hal (Theo James) faces off against his vengeful brother Bill (Theo James), the monkey triggers a basically apocalyptic level of destruction across the town, and the Pale Horseman even shows up to hammer the point home.
But others found the climax between the two brothers, well, anti-climactic, criticised the abundance of CGI gore in the closing scenes, and felt that it failed to strike a consistent tone as the credits rolled.
It's certainly a movie that's been passionately debated by audiences since release, with the ending likely being the primary cause of its almost 50:50 audience score.
