10 Recent Horror Movies That Were Sent Out To Die
2. Grudge (2020)
The Grudge revolves around a vengeful spirit called Kayako who haunts anyone who dares enter her house. As a concept, that sounds pretty scary... the first time. But considering the latest film, Grudge, is a remake of The Grudge, which is remake of Ju-On: The Grudge, which is a remake of Ju-On: The Curse, it's no surprise the franchise has gotten pretty derivative.
Despite the fact the original films weren't exactly masterpieces, they deserve high praise since their beautiful and haunting visuals helped popularise Japanese horror in mainstream cinema. We all remember how chilling it was to see Kayako crawling down the stairs. We won't forget how disturbing it was to see the fingers poking out of the woman's hair. We remember our hairs standing on end when we saw the girl with her jaw ripped off.
Instead of devising scenes that emulate that same fear, this remake simply copies every iconic shot from the original verbatim. Grudge is so paint-by-numbers, you wonder why the filmmakers wanted to make it since they didn't have a single fresh idea of their own.
