5. Adam Scott As Ben Parker - Madame Web
What Sony tried to do with its own shared universe based on its Spider-Man characters was something that was doomed from the beginning. The simple fact is that you cannot have a Spider-Man universe without a Spider-Man, though in fairness it didn't help that the likes of Morbius and Madame Web were genuinely terrible films.
At least the latter, the fourth entry in the franchise, tried to tie back to Peter Parker in some way, but it just didn't work. This came largely in the form of Adam Scott's mystery role.
The internet had pretty much figured out that Scott would be playing Ben Parker, Peter's uncle, long before the movie ever came out, and those few who actually got around to seeing the film didn't have to wait long for it to be confirmed. Just a few minutes into proceedings, Scott's character was referred to as Ben Parker.
It may not have been on the same level as Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire returning in Spider-Man: No Way Home in terms of worst-kept secrets, but it certainly would have come to the surprise of absolutely nobody. After a few more clunky references to Ben's nephew being born, and some cringeworthy teases about the baby's name, it seems likely that the SSU will end without ever properly having the chance to build on Ben's inclusion.
