10 Recent Movie Sequels That Came Out Of Nowhere
9. Another Simple Favor
Paul Feig's black comedy thriller A Simple Favor was a solid box office hit in 2018, though considering Darcey Bell's novel is the only source material, it absolutely seemed like a one-off movie.
But a sequel, Another Simple Favor, was nevertheless shot in early 2024, and this past February it was announced to have its world premiere at SXSW the very next month, with the general release happening two months later in May.
Yet Another Simple Favor ended up skipping a theatrical release entirely and being sent straight to Amazon Prime Video instead - a surprising move considering that the original made almost $100 million theatrically and then became something of a streaming hit during the pandemic.
As a result, it feels like Another Simple Favor arrived without much fanfare, likely aided by lukewarm reviews from SXSW and a general feeling that the single standalone movie was enough.
The wider critical and audience response to the sequel doesn't exactly contradict that opinion either.
