10 Recent Movie Truths We've Just Found Out

1. An Unmade Bruce Almighty Sequel, Brucifer, Would've Given Jim Carrey Devil Powers

The Jim Carrey-starring fantasy-comedy Bruce Almighty was a box office smash back in 2003, grossing almost $500 million globally, enough that a sequel simply seemed like a sure thing.

Ultimately it never came to fruition, though, because Carrey is historically not a fan of playing the same character twice.

And so, Universal instead ill-advisedly made a Steve Carell-starring spin-off, Evan Almighty, which with an eye-watering $175 million budget remains the most expensive flop comedy ever.

In an interview with Syfy last year, however, original Bruce Almighty screenwriters Steve Koren and Mark O’Keefe revealed that their original, Carrey-starring sequel idea was called "Brucifer," and would've seen Carrey's protagonist Bruce Nolan gain satanic powers.

More to the point, the instigating incident for Bruce's turn to the dark side would've been the death of his partner Grace (Jennifer Aniston), who he then spends the rest of the movie attempting to resurrect.

Despite Carrey apparently expressing great enthusiasm for the idea, it never made it past the pitching stage, and the world was probably left all the poorer for it. If nothing else, it sounds a hell of a lot more inspired and interesting than... whatever the hell Evan Almighty was.
