10 Recent Movies It's Cool To Hate
6. Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood
Tarantino’s most recent and supposed penultimate directorial effort was his most divisive yet. Overly indulgent in the references of old Hollywood and with a limited narrative in comparison to his previous films, OUATIH rose above the occasion receiving Oscar nominations aplenty and awards thrown at Brad Pitt for his charismatic performance as Cliff Booth.
Yet like most of Tarantino’s other works OUATIH came along with a collective of litigious haters, as the director released his most self-indulgent epic yet. Taking to the streets of Old Hollywood, Tarantino bombarded viewers with old cars, TV show sets, references galore, and another satirical and fantasist depiction of real-life events.
Whatever you want to label OUATIH, its day-in-the-life styled storytelling allowed the film to lay witness to viewer interpretation, with audiences taking different viewpoints. Yet as with any critically acclaimed film, and more importantly, any critically acclaimed Tarantino flick, the shower of nominations and awards further stifled the hate-train for another of the master director’s drama/comedy mashups.
