3. Solo: A Star Wars Story
Solo was the spin-off movie no one asked for. Delving into the past of everyone’s favourite nerf herder, Solo came too soon after the character’s satisfying conclusion in the form of his appearance in The Force Awakens. This resulted in a film that truly introduced the idea of Star Wars fatigue, making Disney execs realise that audiences wouldn’t just lap up any Star Wars fodder thrown their way.
Admittedly, taken out of the context of Star Wars, Solo is actually a decent/serviceable sci-fi actioner, with an especially spectacular train heist scene and the best Han Solo impression about. Yet despite Alden Ehrenreich’s best attempt at Harrison Ford-level charisma audiences were never going to side with this film.
Through its “how did he get that item?” styled checklist, the hate towards Solo stuck on each of the explanations and additions to Han’s story, leaving its expanding depiction of the Star Wars universe to be relatively ignored. Let’s be honest though, the origin of Han Solo’s name itself is enough to warrant Solo’s place on this list.
