Budget – $100 million

Earned – $30 million

The Last Duel tells the true story of knight, Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon), who challenges his former friend, Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), after he's accused of raping Jean's wife, Marguerite (Jodie Comer). With its stellar cast, phenomenal action sequences, stunning cinematography, Rashomon-styled story structure, and visionary director, Ridley Scott, at the helm, The Last Duel had all the workings of a classic.

Sadly, the period drama didn't make a splash upon its release, with cinemagoers at the time buying tickets for Venom 2, Halloween Kills, and pretty much anything that wasn't The Last Duel. Although Ridley Scott is no stranger to box-office bombs, this may his least successful film. (His most infamous failure, Blade Runner, earned $11 million more.)

Obviously frustrated, Scott looked to cast the blame on anything, whether it was millennials, streaming, or Marvel.

Although it's debatable why The Last Duel didn’t do well, you can understand why the renowned filmmaker took it personally. Considering Scott has been in the biz for half a century and has directed some of the greatest films ever, it’s depressing that his work still tanks.
