10 Recent Movies That Didn't Deserve To Fail THIS BAD!

Pixar

Budget: $200 million

Earned: Currently $161 million

Because the previous two Toy Story sequels earned over a billion dollars, a spin-off revolving around Buzz Lightyear was a no-brainer.

Despite the film being banned in several countries due a scene involving a same-sex kiss, the Pixar studio weren't worried.

Sadly, they should've been. Although Pixar's latest feature was projected to earn up to $105 million in its opening weekend, Lightyear scraped in half that amount.

Stranger still, there isn't a glaring reason why the latest instalment of the studio's biggest IP didn't work. Instead, Lightyear was let down by a myriad of problems. Being sandwiched between Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, and Thor: Love & Thunder, Lightyear got lost in the shuffle. Due to bad marketing, many people were oblivious to what the story was or how the film factored into the franchise exactly. Because Tim Allen is so beloved as Buzz Lightyear, devoted fans lost interest when they learned the role was recast.

Because recent Pixar films like Luca, Soul, and Turning Red were exclusively streamed on Disney+ at no additional charge, some believe Lightyear tanked because families aren't willing to fork out money to watch the latest Pixar feature outside the comfort of their own home.
