It was no secret that the third Guardians of the Galaxy film would be the swansong for the team in this particular iteration, thanks in no small part to James Gunn's new role over at DC. This was confirmed as the team almost completely broke up.

Star-Lord and Mantis both went out on their own, Nebula and Drax stayed to build a society on Knowhere, and Gamora became an established part of the Ravagers, leaving Rocket to form a completely new iteration of the Guardians. The post-credits scene teased that the Legendary Star-Lord would return, but it's with the team itself that lies the most compelling story.

At the end of Guardians 3, Rocket led a whole new roster of Guardians, with Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and the biggest Groot yet. This team needs to be given time to flourish, and whether they appear in Avengers 5 and 6 or not, Guardians Vol. 4 would be ideal.

The MCU has hit a rough patch since Avengers: Endgame, and while the likes of Doctor Strange and Thor failed to excite the world with their teases of more to come, it feels as though the Guardians' welcome has a long way to go before being outstayed.
