10 Recent Movies That Put INSANE Effort Into Scenes
3. Rory Kinnear Spent 10 Days Being "Birthed" In Cold British Weather - Men
Love it or hate it, Alex Garland's Men certainly touts one of the most unforgettable climaxes of the year - or any year, really - when the naked man (Rory Kinnear) stalking protagonist Harper (Jessie Buckley) throughout the film, uh, gives birth to a young boy (whose face also resembles Kinnear).
This birthing cycle happens an additional three times - a grotesque, horrifying ritual which naturally revolted as many as it captivated. Nevertheless, it's certainly an impressive technical achievement, expertly melding first-rate practical effects with digital trickery.
Rory Kinnear has spoken extensively about how arduous shooting the scene was - he spent 10 nights in the chilly British spring weather pretending to be birthed repeatedly. He said:
"It was like a week and a half of night shoots, and you're cold and covered in goo, so you knew you might as well commit to it wholeheartedly... They try and warm you up with one of those foil blankets afterwards and you realise it's going to stick to you and various lumps come away with it. Obviously, there were models to represent various apertures that I would emerge from, but it certainly felt like I was doing it for real."
We appreciate your sacrifice, Rory - well, some of us do.
