8. The Gorge

The Gorge

Scott Derrickson's The Gorge is a not-bad, not-great horror flick which just doesn't know when to end.

It seems to reach its drawn-out conclusion, though, when heroes Levi (Miles Teller) and Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy) defeat the forces of villain Bartholomew (Sigourney Weaver) but are separated by a nuclear explosion intended to sterilise the area.

Drasa is then shown entering a five-day self-imposed quarantine to ensure that she hasn't been infected by the mutagenic substance in the gorge, while hoping that Levi will also avoid infection and find his way to her.

When Levi doesn't show up to their rendezvous in France, she believes him to be dead, though the final scene goes full Bourne Identity, with Levi belatedly arriving at the restaurant where Drasa is working, before they embrace and share a triumphant smooch.

This is ultimately just a corny step too far - it would've been enough to simply see Drasa smile when Levi arrives at the restaurant, or better yet, leave it agonisingly ambiguous whether they meet again or not.

It's always good to leave people with something to think about, after all.
