10 Recent Movies That Should've Ended Earlier

9. Juror #2

Death of a Unicorn
Warner Bros.

Clint Eastwood's Juror #2 is a rock solid throwback to '90s legal thrillers, revolving around Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult) - a man called up to serve on the jury for a high-profile murder trial, only to realise that he was most likely responsible for the victim's death, having hit her with his car.

Ultimately the dramatic crux of the movie is this - will Justin step forward and confess to his act, or allow an innocent man, James Sythe (Gabriel Basso), to go down for it instead?

In the end, Justin decides to let Sythe take to rap, after which he has a brief chat with prosecutor Faith Killebrew (Toni Collette) outside the courthouse, who has deduced that Justin was actually responsible for the death of Sythe's girlfriend.

During their tense conversation, Justin suggests that if Faith re-opens the case and investigates him, she'll threaten her own political aspirations by dragging a "good man" through the mud.

This is a perfect departure point on which to end the film, leaving audiences to ponder whether Faith will risk her career to pursue Justin, but Eastwood tacks one more scene onto the story, where a short while later Faith knocks on his door.

While we don't know what Faith says to Justin, the clear implication is that she's going to continue investigating him. But wasn't the more ambiguous, up-in-the-air conclusion a few minutes earlier infinitely more intriguing and thought provoking?
