10 Recent Movies That Weren't What Anyone Expected
6. Predator: Killer of Killers
When we first heard that Prey director Dan Trachtenberg had made a secret new Predator movie in addition to the upcoming Predator: Badlands, most assumed that it would be a more low-key, self-contained franchise entry like Trachtenberg's own secret Cloverfield sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane.
But less than two months before release, Predator: Killer of Killers was finally confirmed to be an animated spin-off - and more to the point, an anthology encompassing three short stories throughout history.
Yet even once fans got onboard with this idea, Killer of Killers still had a big surprise in store for its third act, when the three disparate plot lines - set in 841 Scandinavia, 1609 Japan, and 1942 America - converge via timey-wimey shenanigans.
That is to say, the human survivors of each story are held in suspended animation by the Predators, before being awoken in the future and ordered to fight to the death.
Oh, and the final scene goes one further to reveal that Prey's protagonist Naru (Amber Midthunder) is among the Predators' captives.
Plus, recently an extra epilogue was added to the film revealing that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover's protagonists from the first two Predator movies, Dutch Schaefer and Mike Harrigan, are also being stored alongside her.
Who could've possibly predicted any of this?
