4. Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins

Since the 1980s, studios have tried turning the toy brand GI Joe into a lucrative movie series. Sadly, the 2009 live-action film and its 2013 sequel fared badly at the box office. (There was also an animated movie in 1987 but nobody remembers that.)

In 2021, Paramount decided to reboot the series again. Much like the way Marvel forged its shared universe, Paramount intended to introduce key characters from GI Joe in solo flicks before having them team up in one huge crossover. The studio sensibly started this plan by greenlighting a solo film based on the most popular GI Joe character, Snake Eyes.

Even though Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins culminates with our hero defeating Cobra's forces, the mid-credits sequence shows the terrorist group is far from finished. In this scene, The Baroness enters a private jet to recruit Snake Eye's brother, Tommy, into Cobra. He agrees, taking on the codename, Storm Shadow.

Sadly, critics weren't won over by the movie's editing, action, writing, or... anything, to be honest.

Considering Snake Eyes needed to earn $160 million to break even and only managed a quarter of that, a future instalment is pretty much out of the question.
