10 Remarkable Movie Performances By The Last Actor You'd Expect
4. Channing Tatum In 21 Jump Street
No-one really expected all that much from the 21 Jump Street movie. A reboot of a show some people probably forgot existed even though it was mentioned five entries ago transformed into a comedy was a premise absolutely no-one asked for and it seemed set to be another forgettable piece of juvenile comedy. And then it was amazing.
Apart from it actually being hilarious, the biggest revelation of the film how good Channing Tatum was.
Before this, Tatum was mostly known for generic action movies and romantic dramas. He was the kind of bland but attractive lead that looked like he rolled off a production line along with Taylor Kitsch, Josh Duhamel and all the other actors you keep googling to check they aren't the same person.
21 Jump Street though, showed us what a natural flair Tatum has for comedy, using his image as a dumb hunk of muscle to portray the lovable idiot Jenko. Watching him struggle to fit in with a school that no longer adheres to the social cliques of the 80's (a lesson a lot of movies could do with learning) is hilarious and the way he plays off his co-star Hill is a constant delight to watch, making the Jump Street franchise one of Hollywood's most bankable.
Here's looking forward to 41 Jump Street: Magic School.
